How Our Mobile Notary Quote Process Works (and Why We Confirm It in Writing)

Quick Answer
Notary Drive sends every client a written mobile notary quote before dispatch. The quote lists the notarial fee, the travel charge, and any facility or after-hours cost as separate line items. The total does not change once we arrive.

Why We Quote Before We Travel
You want to know the full cost before a notary drives to your location.
Notary Drive handles this the same way on every job: we send a complete, written quote before we confirm your appointment. You see each charge in advance. You decide before we travel, not after.
How We Build Your Mobile Notary Quote
We follow the same five steps for every request.
You tell us the document type and how many signatures need notarization.
You tell us the location, date, and preferred time.
We check for facility, hospital, or after-hours factors that affect travel.
We calculate the notarial fee and the travel charge as separate line items.
We send the full quote in writing before we schedule the appointment.
You review the quote and confirm before we book the visit. Most quotes go out within the same conversation.
What Shapes the Number
A few basics shape every quote: signature count and certificate type (jurat or acknowledgment), distance and time of day, and any facility or after-hours factors. We've broken down exactly how each fee is calculated in a separate guide. This piece focuses on the process around that number: how we collect the details, what we confirm before dispatch, and why you get it in writing.
Whatever the total comes to, we disclose it as separate line items. You never see one bundled number with no explanation behind it.
What We Need Before We Dispatch
A notarization can only happen if these conditions are met at the appointment:
The signer is present, alert, and willing to sign
The signer has valid identification, or qualifies under California's credible witness rules
The document is complete but unsigned, since the signer must sign in front of the notary
Facility access is confirmed in advance, for hospital, care facility, or jail appointments
We confirm these details with you before we travel, so there are no surprises at the appointment.
What Can Change or Stop a Notarization
A notary cannot complete the act if:
The signer is not present, or appears unwilling or unable to consent
The ID presented does not meet California's identification requirements
The document is incomplete or missing pages when we arrive
A facility denies access at the scheduled time
Some of these factors sit outside our control. We flag the risk during the quote conversation whenever we can see it coming, so it does not surprise you at the appointment.
California Law on Notary Fees and Travel Charges
California law sets the maximum fee a notary can charge for the notarial act itself (Government Code section 8211). That statutory fee covers the notarization. It does not cover travel, waiting time, printing, or after-hours service. Those costs are calculated and disclosed separately, before you book.
State consumer protection law also requires that an advertised or quoted price reflect the full amount you will actually pay, with mandatory fees included rather than added later at checkout. Our quote process is built around that standard: one written total, itemized by category, sent before dispatch.
Common Questions About Our Quote Process
Does the quote expire?
Quotes are good for the appointment details you gave us. If the location, signer count, or timing changes, we recalculate before confirming.
Can the quote change after I accept it?
Only if the details change: a different location, an added signer, or a facility requirement we did not know about when we quoted. We tell you before the appointment.
What if my appointment gets rescheduled?
Tell us as soon as you know. We reconfirm the quote for the new date and time.

A Note on Legal Advice
Notary Drive can explain how the notarization process works. We cannot tell you which notarial certificate to use, and we cannot give legal advice about your document. For questions about what your document needs to say, talk with an attorney.
